WTC Connections: “SMART Goals – Smart Steps Forward”

Part B: Creating your Professional Development Plan

Since your initial matching in the WTC Mentoring program, you have already invested several weeks into your relationship with your mentor or protégée.  We hope you are making the most of your relationships!

Step 1 Step 1 Step 2 Step 2 Step 3 Step 3A Step 3B Step 4B

Our last WTC Connections email: Dreams and Goals Part 2- “Taking Action to Create Your Future”, provided access to a brief professional assessment survey and introduced S.M.A.R.T. goals. Evaluating your strengths, areas for improvement and developing goals is an important part of your professional development.

It is our expectation that 100% of WTC protégées will complete the assessment survey and participate in goal-setting, so if you haven’t yet done so, please complete the survey this week. Mentors are also welcome to use the tools we’ve provided! Remember, The Women’s TechConnect Mentoring Program is your opportunity to have support in advancing your professional ambitions. We encourage you to take full advantage of all resources we offer.

If you have read Dreams and Goals Part 2, you know that your professional development goals should be S.M.A.R.T.: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. We recommended that you identify 1-3 professional goals you want to accomplish this year. The goals you selected will now be inputs into your Professional Development Plan. Some of you have shared your completed S.M.A.R.T. goals worksheets with us and are clearly off to a great start!

Your Professional Development Plan will help you focus and move forward on your S.M.A.R.T. goals. For each S.M.A.R.T. goal, you will list the set of activities necessary to accomplish the goal, determine a target date for completion of the activities, and periodically, you will review the plan and make updates or revisions as necessary. In the Women’s TechConnect Mentoring Program Resources Hub you will find our Professional Development Plan Template and an example to review.

Complete your Professional Development Plan and share the results with your match. Remember, your match is here to provide you support! The more you share about what you’d like to accomplish, the more your match can help support your growth!
