Mentor/Protégé Roles & Requirements

Women’s TechConnect (WTC) brings together professional women with college-educated young women in the developing world and women IT professionals in the humanitarian sector, to support career development, confidence-building and success in the technology industry. Find out more….


Who can be a mentor?

  • Must be a woman.
  • Must hold a technical position in an IT related profession. Prefer those with degrees in computer science, information management or graphic design.
  • Agree to perform the roles as set forth below.

      
      
    


Who can be a protégé?

  • Must be a woman.
  • Must have been in a job where IT is an important part of your job role or you must be studying towards a degree in computer science, information management or graphic design. Priority placements will be made for protégés in the developing world and/or the International development sector.
    • Agree to perform the roles as set forth below.


   


Your Role:

The Women’s TechConnect Mentoring program is a 12 month commitment.  The time commitment is approx: 2 hours per month. The guidelines are pretty simple!

  • Connect with your mentoring partner on a regular basis:
    • Communicate via email once every other week
    • Talk by phone or Skype at least once a month
    • You will receive weekly email prompts suggesting a topic to discuss with your mentoring partner. These are ‘starter prompts’ to help guide discussion, but you are not required to structure your conversation around these prompts.
  • Participate in a monthly online webinar – live or review the recording afterwards
